Art Coast Cottage

This is the cottage you've been looking for. An escape from ordinary life, tucked away in the Lake Michigan sand dunes near the Oxbow School of Art campus. You will feel as though you've been transported into another time and place. This secluded, quiet, wooded setting is truly magical!

Take joy in the slower pace and be off the beaten path. Relax on the wrap-around covered porch with your morning cup of coffee while listening to the songs of the local birds. If Lake Michigan is calling your name, you have the option of walking, biking, or driving to the Oval Beach which is only 1.2 miles by road. Mt. The Chain Ferry is nearby as well, 0.7 from the cottage, and will take you across the river into the heart of Saugatuck for great shopping and dining. In the evenings, you'll want to gather around the fire pit to make s'mores and laugh about times gone by or sit at the table chatting, playing cards, assembling puzzles, or playing board games.

Built in 2012, the “Art Coast Cottage” shows near new.  The cottage offers all the modern amenities including a fully equipped kitchen and adjacent dining area are great for meals at home. The dining table is made out of a family shipping crate dating back to 1924 - truly magical! Enjoy a quick breakfast before you go out exploring for all that Saugatuck has to offer or make an entire dinner to eat at home. The living room boasts soaring ceilings and surrounding extra-large windows with beautiful views of the surrounding woods. You will want to sit and visit with your loved ones for hours. The main level has two bedrooms and a full bathroom with a shower tub combo adding convenience for those who may have a hard time with stairs. I cant say enough good things about this rental! The property managers were fantastic and made everything easy - they even called during my stay to make sure everything was going well, and to ask if they could do anything for us. The house itself was amazing! The location is absolutely perfect - Its pretty far from everything except a neat art school in the woods up the hill. The backyard has great firepit, chairs, and picnic table. Theres a trailhead that goes to "Crows Nest Overlook" very close to the house - its a relatively mild (2 mile) trail through an old growth forest that leads to a fantastic view of the lagoon and Lake Michigan. I highly recommend this property!

The Art Coast Cottage was an amazing property. The mornings began with free symphonies by the birds. (Saw my first hummingbird of the season) The rhododendrons bloomed all week for us. The kitchen was spacious and stocked with a lot of staples, It afforded a great gathering space for culinary adventures and great conversation around the farm style table. We enjoyed the fire pit for evening gathering of gratitude and conviviality. The best stocked game closet Ive ever seen. Comfortable beds, amazing shower water pressure and the coziest home feeling Ive had the pleasure to rent, ever. The lake was too cold for me to swim in, but the rest of the peace of Spring before the tourists hordes take over town was well worth coming early for...Mother Nature gifted us with perfect weather. I hope to come back and stay with loved ones again...maybe next Mothers Day?!

What a cute place, and a perfect weekend getaway location!! We appreciated how the house itself was newer and clean, yet the furnishings and decor gave it a cottage-y feel. We drove most places as we had our 4 kids in tow, but enjoyed being more secluded and away from everything. So relaxing! Its so quiet we even saw 2 deer outside our window in the morning! We will definitely be back.

You can look forward to privacy & quiet - yet are near enough to Saugatuck & Douglas to check them out. The house is well stocked with plates, silverware, etc, so you dont have to do dishes every night. Thats a plus! Be sure to check out both towns!

In a prime location in Saugatuck! The Art Coast Cottage was tucked back into a prime location for sitting around the fire pit and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. The house was very clean and perfect for our group getaway. Would definitely go back. Tip: Theres a $1.00 ($.50 for children) shuttle that will pick you up and drop you off from the Art Coast Cottage. We were planning on having some drinks downtown and didnt want to drive so this was a perfect, easy, and super affordable option.
